  • Live With Others Who Have Similar Interests

Start Out with Something in Common

Our Featured Communities allow students who share similar personal or academic interests and goals to live together in a designated wing or hall inside our dorms. We offer three types of featured communities: theme, living-learning and honors.

    New this Year

This year we have opened two new living-learning communities – Global Community and Social Justice wing.

    • Global Community:

In this global setting you will have the chance to meet students from all over the world and experience a variety of cultures on a daily basis. This is an accepting and respectful community that is eager to learn about and embrace the differences and similarities among its members. The community is open to all majors at the University of Arizona.

    • Social Justice Wing:

The Social Justice Wing is a space that celebrates and affirms the diverse backgrounds of all its residents. Whether ability, body size/appearance, gender identity, nationality, political affiliation, sexual orientation, social class, race, religion/spirituality, or other identities, students are encouraged to bring their whole selves to Social Justice Wing. The wing is a safe space, where students may discuss their differences and pluralistic identities without fear of slurs, attacks or discrimination.

    Theme Communities

Live with students who share similar interests and goals. Assignments are made on a first come, first served basis. Participation in a related major or program is not required.

    Living-Learning Communities with Specific Themes*

Sponsored living-learning community residents are selected by the sponsoring college or department. You must first submit your housing application and application fee to Residence Life and then you must contact the appropriate college or department. Each living-learning community is located on a wing of a specific hall and is limited in size.

*You must apply and be selected by the sponsoring college or department.

    Honors Communities

Honors students are eligible to live in one of two Honors halls (Árbol de La Vida or Yuma Hall). These halls are in high demand, so we encourage you to list them as your first two hall preferences. You will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Only students admitted to the UA Honors College may live in those two halls.

To be eligible to live in a Featured Community, you must first submit your housing application and application fee.

If you have already applied or been assigned to a hall but now wish to change to one of the theme communities above, you may request a reassignment until July 1 on the Campus Housing Reassignment Request page.
