Free Local Phone Service in Each Room

The University of Arizona ensures that there is a working telephone line that provides local telephone service in every residence hall room. These lines cannot be upgraded to provide long-distance service.

Room Phone Sets

All residents must provide a telephone set for their rooms (coordinate with your roommate on purchasing the phone set and sharing the cost). We recommend a phone set that has voice message capability.

Need for a Local Call-Back Number

If you need to call Residence Life Technology Services for help and you leave voice mail requesting a call-back, you must provide a local Tucson (520 area code) telephone number. TechServ cannot call you back on any phone that has a non-520 area code, as these are long-distance calls. Therefore, having a phone set in your room and leaving your room number as your call-back number is the best course of action.

Help for Phone-Line Problems

If your telephone line does not work properly, call TechServ at 621-8222 and request that your phone line be tested. TechServ will send out a technician with a known working phone set to test your phone line. If your phone line is found to be at fault, you will need to call TELCOM at 621-HELP (621-4357); they will schedule a time to come out and fix your line.
