According to the Southern Poverty Law Center & Tolerance.org, an estimated 50,000 HATE CRIMES occur every year.

As part of the "No Room for Hate" campaign, elMundo diversity initiatives has created a new educational workshop to help teach our campus community members about how to prevent bias incidents & hate crimes.

The Review of Higher Education estimates that over 1 MILLION bias incidents occur on college campuses each year.

What do you think?...

Hate Crime or Bias Incident?

(move your cursor over the scenarios for the answer)

(a) A campus newspaper accepts and prints an advertisement from an off-campus extremist group proclaiming that Holocaust never happened, that it is a falsehood concocted by Jews desiring public sympathy and government support for the Israeli cause.

(b) A fraternity skit during a Halloween party features the mock lynching of a Black man by a hooded Klansman.

(c) The automobile of a prominent gay student leader is “keyed” in the parking lot.  The phrase, “Die faggot!” is carved into the car’s finish.

(d) Two students, one African-American and another Latino, have an argument in a hallway of the student union over a monetary debt.  The argument escalates when ethnic and racial epithets are used.  Soon the two are involved in a fist fight.  Both suffer minor injuries.

Consider attending a 2-hour workshop to learn more about bias incident & hate crime prevention.
