No Room for Hate Campaign
Our No Room for Hate on Campus campaign is kicked off each fall with a bulletin board campaign to make residents aware of Residence Life’s commitment to a harassment and discrimination-free living/learning environment. Residents are encouraged to take action and hang a “No Room for Hate” placard on their doors to clearly designate their room as a hate-free space. The bulletin board also provided information (knowledge) about campus resources available to assist any student, faculty or staff member who may feel the target of bias or hate.

This fall, the campaign will hold a screening of Boys Don’t Cry to be followed by a Hate Crime candlelight vigil. The film tells the story of Brandon Teena, a transgender teen who preferred life in a male identity until it was discovered he was born biologically female. The candlelight vigil will commemorate those whose lives were directly impacted by hate crime or even ended by it and will coincide with the Transgender Day of Remembrance. The Wingspan Anti-Violence Project and the Southern Arizona Gender Alliance have been invited to attend this year and will provide information about how individuals can take action and help end hate motivated violence in our community.
