Safety and Security at La Aldea

Photo of La Aldea at night

Residence Life is committed to providing our students with a safe and secure environment where they can pursue their studies while learning about themselves and others in the community. Security in La Aldea is provided in a number of ways, but it is important that every student in our community be aware of their environment and make good decisions about their own safety, and that of their neighbors.

All exterior doors of La Aldea are locked 24 hours a day. You should, however, consider the door to your apartment to be like the door to your apartment if you lived off-campus, and keep it locked at all times, especially when you are not in your room.

Building Access with Catcard ReaderBuilding Access

La Aldea is equipped with a card access system. This system utilizes your CatCard and a four-digit PIN number chosen when you check in to La Aldea. Only residents of the building can gain access by swiping their cards through the card reader and entering their personal four-digit PINs. The system is operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Emergency Evacuation Plan

During a fire alarm or an emergency situation that requires immediate evacuation of La Aldea, please follow the protocol listed in the La Aldea Evacuation Plan [PDF]. Detailed information on evacuation areas are listed based on your apartment number.

Residence Hall UAPD Liasion Program

UAPD and Residence Life joined hands to institute a liaison program in our communities. The program assigns a specific officer to each residence hall and the La Aldea Community. This unique concept allows for a community- or problem-oriented policing approach and encourages residents to get to know members of UAPD. Liaison officers can provide presentations to residents or assist in solving problems common to the entire community.
