Who can apply for this job?
Any undergraduate student at the U of A can apply to be a desk assistant. Contact DESKOPERATIONS AT life.arizona.edu if you have questions.

Do I have to live in the halls?
Desk assistants may live on or off campus.

Can I hold another position on/off-campus position if I am a desk assistant?
Yes, desk assistants who desire to hold another position need to inform their desk manager.

When is desk assistant training?
Desk assistant training for the Fall Semester will be held on Monday, August 18 and Tuesday, August 19, 2008. Desk assistants are required to attend training and then to assist with hall opening starting on Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Students hired during the year will receive training from the Desk Manager at the desk in which they are working. Contact DESKOPERATIONS AT life.arizona.edu if you have any questions or concerns.

If I have a conflict, can I miss training or be late for it?
No. Desk assistant training prior to opening the residence halls in August in its entirety is required to hold the position. Those DAs not able to attend Fall Training in August are encouraged to fill out another DA application to apply for openings that occur during the year.

If I have been documented for an incident and am currently on probation, can I
still be a desk assistant?
Students must be in good standing with Dean of Students office and the Residence Life Code of Conduct. Students who have been, or are currently, on deferred eviction status, or have been evicted from a residence hall, are not eligible to apply.

Can I choose the building I want to be in?
When you apply, you are applying for the position in the residence hall system not for a specific residence hall. Hall placement is determined by the Desk Selection Committee and is based on the needs of the building, as well as the applicant’s skill set.

What GPA is required to be a desk assistant?
There is no grade requirement at this time.

How many hours should I expect to work as a desk assistant?
Most desk assistants work between 8 and 20 hours a week, depending, on the needs of the desk and individual availability. Students may work up to 30 hours a week (international students may work up to 20 hours a week).

What is the compensation?
$6.75 / hour
