Room Transfers for Current Residents

Photo collage of students

Once you are checked into a Residence Hall, you may request a hall transfer (move to another hall) or a room transfer (change rooms in your current hall).

In order to transfer, you will need to put yourself on a transfer list. You will be able to select all the halls that you wish to transfer to. As space opens up you will be contacted via email with an offer to move. If you change you mind, you may remove yourself from any/all transfer list(s) at any time.

Once you put yourself on the transfer list, your position on the list will be displayed. You can check back periodically to view your current status.

A waitlist will be maintained by gender for each hall. Since offers are made based on the individual hall waitlists, there is NO guarantee that you will be offered a space in your first choice hall before any others that you requested. If space becomes available for you in one of your requested halls, you will receive only one offer. Upon making you an offer to transfer, you will be removed from all other transfer lists.

Given this, we encourage you to think about what halls you are choosing and why, as you complete the process.

When Residence Life is ready to offer you a transfer, an email will be sent to your University email account. The email will tell you the hall to which you are being offered a transfer, but NOT the specific room number. You will then need to accept or decline the offer by the deadline listed in the email.

If we do not hear from you by the deadline, we will assume you have declined the offer. Upon declining an offer you will be removed from all remaining hall’s transfer lists you signed up for.

When you accept an offer you will be assigned to a room in the hall and will receive a ‘move authorization’ email giving you specific room information and the timeline to check in to your new assignment and check out of the previous.

Failure to properly check out of your previous assignment will result in an improper checkout fee on your Bursar’s account, and could result in rent charges for BOTH rooms.

Students may begin signing up online for hall or room transfers after 5pm on Thursday, August 16th 2007. You must have checked into your assigned hall/room before you can sign up for a transfer. Transfers won't begin until later in Sept. or after all students in temporary housing are assigned to a permanent space.
