Creating Communities - Hall Staff

Introducing People Who Care About You . . .
We are very proud to have a staff of talented and committed students and professionals to help develop and maintain a great residential environment.
Resident Assistants
Typically the staff members you will get to know best, “RAs,”
are student staff who live on wings or floors of each residence hall. They
have specific community development, programming and administrative responsibilities,
but they probably can be best thought of as outstanding resources for you.
They are experienced students who have been selected for their skills and
have been trained to be an important link between you and the
things you
will experience as a student. Please make the time to get to know your RA.
They are here to celebrate the successes we hope you have, and help you work
through the challenges you may face.
Community Director
Your Community Director trains and directly supervises the RAs and has overall responsibility for your residence hall. Depending on which community you live in, your Community Director is a full-time professional or a graduate student. Full-time Community Directors have a masters degree and at least two years of Residence Life experience. Graduate Community Directors are working on a masters or doctorate degree and have had previous experience in Residence Life. Responsibilities include developing a learning community within their hall, working with residents on issues and concerns, monitoring and enforcing Community Standards (as necessary), working with custodial and maintenance staff to assure a safe and healthy physical environment, advising Hall Council, and a wide range of administrative functions.
Desk Staff
These student staff members operate the Front Desks of each residence hall. They are responsible for greeting visitors, receiving and processing mail and other deliveries, checking out equipment (like vacuum cleaners, movies, pots and pans etc.), issuing extra room keys, and generally maintaining order in the lobby of each building.
Assistant Directors
These full-time staff members are responsible for a group of residence halls in specific areas of campus. They train and supervise the Community Directors, support in-hall staffs as needed, and are available as resources for all residents.
Custodians
Custodians are assigned to each residence hall and are responsible for cleaning common areas including lounges, hallways, bathrooms, study rooms, etc. They will not clean your room after you move in. Our custodial staff work hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Each custodian wears a uniform and a picture identification card that identifies her/him as an employee of Residence Life Custodial (RLC). We also provide after-hour emergency services.
Mechanics
Maintenance mechanics are assigned to specific residence halls. Skilled trades staff like plumbers, painters, carpenters and electricians work in all halls as required. Our maintenance staff work hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Maintenance staff wear uniforms or display picture identification cards identifying them as employees of Residence Life Maintenance (RLM). We also provide after-hour emergency services.
Faculty Fellows
Inspired by the need to provide students a more personalized experience by increasing student contact with faculty outside the classroom, Residence Life and the Dean of Students Office established the Faculty Fellows Program in 1985. Faculty selected to serve in this program represent a wide variety of academic disciplines and want to contribute to students having a high-quality experience in college. Fellows are appointed to serve in residence halls by spending time with residents, offering information about academics, organizing learning opportunities, and lending a listening ear during office hours. The goal of this program is for faculty to establish relationships with students in the residence halls so that they can experience a more fulfilling and successful academic career at The University of Arizona.
UAPD Liaison
Recently, UAPD and Residence life joined hands to institute a liaison program in our communities. The program assigns a specific officer to each residence hall. This program allows for a community-oriented policing approach and encourages residents to get to know members of UAPD. Liaison officers can provide presentations to residents or assist in solving problems common to the entire residence hall. To find out who your liaison is, ask your Community Director, Resident Assistant or review the UAPD Liaison listing.
