Maricopa Hall

Maricopa is a wonderful community and a beautiful place to live.” Lasting friendships are formed and the women find out who they are and what they really want to do with their lives. Living with other females is not always easy but at Maricopa they start to learn how to find ways to compromise and make it work.”
- Lana Yoshimura, Former Graduate Hall Director

This beautiful three-story hall is reminiscent of the 1920s in its design with a spacious entryway and salons lighted by crystal chandeliers. Queen Anne style furniture and a grand piano grace the main living room, which opens onto a large terrace and courtyard. A wicker tea room and kitchen adjoin a casual eating and TV area.

A unique feature of Maricopa is the sleeping porch, a feature common in sorority houses. The sleeping porch allows women to sleep undisturbed any time of the day or night while allowing full use of the student rooms. At the end of each wing is a large sleeping porch with approximately 12-15 bunk beds. Each resident has her own bed and is required to sleep in the sleeping porch, not in her assigned room. Guests are not permitted in the sleeping porches. Students are assigned to double rooms that include one day-bed for sitting or resting, as well as all other standard room furniture.

Why the residents like the sleeping porches?

“If your roommate stays up late to study or watch TV, you can go to bed without being in the same room.”

“My sister came to visit and she was able to stay in my room on the day-bed.”

“The other girls are a back-up alarm if your alarm clock doesn’t go off.”

“You get to know the other girls’ schedules and if they’re not home or in their bed late, you look for them.”

“If you’re sick, you can sleep in your room that night instead of in the sleeping porch where you might infect everyone.”

“There is always a quiet place to take a nap.”

Rooms vary in size, design, and layouts. Assignments to particular rooms are random. The views provided here are only examples; your assigned room may not be identical.
