Hall Services

Residence Life, the University and the community offer many different services to make your stay with us more comfortable. The following is a small collection of some of those services. Your hall staff also has additional resources.
Front Desk Services
The front desk of every residence hall is the central hub of services and
activity. Most desks are open from 10am-midnight every night and are staffed
by student Desk Managers and Assistants.
The following services are provided by the front desk:
Area Maintenance Forms (AMF)
If something in your room or elsewhere in the hall/apartment is broken or
just doesn’t seem to work right, fill out an Area Maintenance Form
(AMF) and place it in the AMF box in your lobby. AMF forms are available
at or near your Front Desk. Depending on the problem, either Residence
Life Maintenance or Residence Life Custodial staff will respond to your
request. Normally, response will occur on a same or next working day basis.
If the reported problem is in your room, the responding RLM or RLC staff
member will first knock on the door and identify himself or herself before
entering. If no one is home, our staff member will enter your room and
respond to the problem in your absence and leave a note informing you they
entered your room. By completing the AMF you are authorizing our staff
to enter your room.
Keys and CatCards
All exterior doors of the residence halls are locked 24-hours a day. Card
Access buildings require the use of your University CatCard to enter the
exterior doors of your building. Each resident must select a 4-digit PIN
to enter after swiping their CatCard. Request a change of PIN.
You will be issued a key to your assigned room and, where applicable, an entrance door to your building and/or mailbox. Keys are your responsibility and are not to be given to others. You are required to return all keys issued when you check–out. If you lose a key, you are responsible for the cost of changing the lock(s) and key replacement. It is a violation of state law and University policy to duplicate a key to any lock on University property.
You will be billed a $10 lock-out fee, per occurrence for the use of a lock out key. If you are locked out of your room, go to your Front Desk and check out a lock-out key for ten minutes. If the key is not returned promptly, you will be charged for a lock change. You will need to provide photo identification or information so that staff members may verify that you are a resident of the room. If the Front Desk is closed, see yourResident Assistant. If not available, see the Resident Assistant on Duty.
In the event of a broken key, you will be given a replacement, providing you produce the broken key; if you cannot, your key will be presumed lost. All lost or broken keys are billed to your University account. You will also be charged for the loss of temporary entrance cards.
Lost and Found
The front desks have an informal lost and found service. Students who lose
or find items should report them immediately to the Front Desk. At the
end of the academic year, all items found in common areas or left behind
in a resident’s room, including but not limited to watches, televisions,
VCRs, stereos, wallets, etc., are disposed of by appropriate personnel.
Mail
Campus and U.S. Mail is delivered daily (except Sunday) to the residence halls. A mailbox is assigned to each room. You will receive a notice in your mailboxif a package or a large envelope is delivered. These items may be picked up by presenting the notice and I.D. to the Desk Assistant on duty. Outgoing mail may be dropped off at the Front Desk. The nearest Post Office is located in the Student Union Memorial Center. Mail is not delivered to the Residence Halls during Thanksgiving, Winter Break or Spring Break.
Newspaper Delivery
Local newspaper subscriptions and delivery are available to all residence hall students. Students should call the Arizona Daily Star (morning paper) or the Tucson Citizen (afternoon paper) to subscribe. Delivery of papers will be made to the Front Desk. The University is not responsible for lost or stolen papers and it is the student’s responsibility to contact the delivery service if such concerns arise.
Other Hall Services
Bottled Water
Residence Life has an exclusive marketing agreement with Sparkletts Water for bottled water services in residence halls/apartments. They are the only water vendor allowed into the building without you escorting them. This agreement resulted from a competitive bid process and provides favorable rates to our residents. If you would like to arrange for bottled water delivery, or just find out more about the program, please call Sparkletts Waters at 1-800-453-0292. Sparkletts representatives will also be available during fall check-in days.
Cable Television
Extended “Basic” cable is provided in all residence hall rooms.
CatCard
The CatCard serves as your primary form of on-campus identification and
is used to do things like check out library resources, access your meal plan,
and gain entry to the Campus Recreation Center - just to name a few! It
is your responsibility to carry your student ID with you at all times and
present it to any University staff, including hall staff. If your CatCard
is lost or stolen you must notify the CatCard Office immediately.
Kitchen Facilities
Limited cooking facilities are available and residents are expected to keep
the kitchen clean and in proper working order. Most of our kitchens are
equipped with full size stoves and refrigerators. Pots and pans can be
checked out from the Front Desk of your hall.
Laundry
Washers and dryers are located in all halls. They are available at the rate
of $1.00 per wash and $.75 per dry, by using money on your CatCard gold
chip. You must provide your own detergent. Residents should promptly report
any malfunction to the Front Desk. Refunds are not given for money lost
in the washers and dryers. Dye is not permitted in the machines.
Recycling
Residence Life Recycling recycles aluminum, plastic, white paper, newspaper,
ink cartridges, cardboard, batteries, and cell phones. Due to the potential
risk factor, Residence Life Recycling does not recycle glass. Recycling
is easy with the individual recycling totes in your room. Centralized recycling
bins are located within your residence halls so you can easily transport
items to be recycled from your room to these convenient locations. The
recycling tote is part of your room furnishings and is provided free for
your use by Residence Life Recycling and the Residence Hall Association. Recycling totes that are damaged or missing
at the end of the year will be charged a $10.00 replacement fee.
Telephone Service
Students need to bring their own phone and answering machine when they move
into the halls. Local service to each room is provided free of charge.
Campus
Calls: dial the entire seven digit number. Long Distance
Calls: Residence Life does not provide residents with long distance
calling services. You may purchase your own prepaid calling card or long
distance service to use in the halls. Prepaid calling cards are available
at the University Bookstore.

Rooms in All University residence halls are equipped with two live Ethernet
ports. This is your direct connection to the University’s high speed
Ethernet network and the Internet. There is no additional cost for this
service other than the cost of equipping your computer to make use of it.
Students need to bring their own computers equipped with an Ethernet card. For more information on how to configure your computer or what Ethernet card to buy, check out Residential Computing.
Vending
Each hall has a variety of vending machines with a wide assortment of products.
Most of the machines are operated by using money on your CatCard gold
chip. Refund information is listed on each machine. Misuse or vandalism
of the machines can result in a hall-wide damage charge.
